J apan will be holding their breath. Takefusa Kubo, 25, was forced off late in their 2-2 World Cup draw with the Netherlands and was later pictured leaving the stadium in a wheelchair, raising fears over a knee problem.

"I do not know what happened"

Kubo went off with a little over 15 minutes left of the 2-2 draw. Onda Cero reporter Alberto Fernández photographed the Real Sociedad player inside the stadium. "I think I am okay. I do not know what happened, I really do not know. We will see," Kubo said, according to Estadio Deportivo. Reports linked the problem to his knee, with some describing a second-half collision.

Manager hopeful

Coach Hajime Moriyasu sounded hopeful that the attacker could be available. "We have not had a detailed report yet, but he could walk on his own earlier. We hope it is a minor injury, but we do not know yet," he said, according to Japanese media.

A doubt for the next game

The question is whether Kubo will be fit for Japan’s next Group F game against Tunisia. The team are awaiting the results of medical tests.
