B razil are through to the Round of 16 after Gabriel Martinelli's stoppage-time goal sealed a 2-1 victory over Japan at NRG Stadium in Houston on June 29. It was a result that required a late Brazil rally after Japan had led for the better part of an hour.
Kaishu Sano gave Japan a deserved lead in the 29th minute and the Asian side held firm into the second half. Casemiro equalised for Brazil in the 56th minute to level the contest, and Martinelli's goal deep into added time completed the turnaround and sent the Selecao through.
Japan exit the World Cup in the Round of 32 after a brave performance. Brazil advance to the Round of 16, where they will face one of the sides emerging from the right side of the draw.
