P ortugal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their Group K opener at Houston Stadium, where a crowd of 68,777 watched the favourites drop points on the opening day.

Neves strikes early

Joao Neves put Portugal ahead in the sixth minute, rewarding a bright start. But DR Congo grew into the contest and found a deserved equaliser just before the break.

Wissa levels before half-time

Yoane Wissa struck on the stroke of half-time to make it 1-1, a goal that shifted the momentum of the match.

A point apiece

Portugal pressed for a winner after the interval, with Rafael Leao and Goncalo Ramos introduced from the bench, but DR Congo held firm for a share of the points in Group K.
