I vory Coast left it late but found a winner through Amad Diallo in the 90th minute to beat Ecuador 1-0 in their Group E opener at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, a disciplined and physical encounter decided by a single moment.

A cagey contest

Both sides struggled to break through for long stretches, and Ivory Coast picked up a cluster of bookings, Seko Fofana, Franck Kessie and Guela Doue all cautioned in the first half as the game grew niggly.

Diallo settles it

The deadlock finally broke in the 90th minute. Wilfried Singo found space down the right and cut the ball back for Amad Diallo, who finished to spark wild celebrations among the Elephants.

Three points

The win gives Ivory Coast a perfect start in Group E, in front of 68,274 in Philadelphia, while Ecuador are left to rue a lack of cutting edge.
