Gudmundsson Forced Off in Sweden’s World Cup Opener
Gabriel Gudmundsson was forced off in the second half of Sweden’s World Cup opener against Tunisia. Manager Graham Potter said it was cramp.
G abriel Gudmundsson, 27, sat down on the turf during Sweden’s World Cup opener and could not carry on. The left-back was substituted in the second half against Tunisia.
Off shortly after the hour
Gudmundsson’s build-up to the opener had been disrupted by illness, but he started in Monterrey. A little less than midway through the second half he gestured for a change while limping slightly, and after playing on for a minute he was replaced by Elliot Stroud just after the hour.
Potter: cramp
Early in the first half he had taken a knock that left him crying out in pain, but according to manager Graham Potter it was cramp. "He said it is cramp but we will see. He was fantastic, like the whole team," Potter told SVT.
Bergvall milestone
In the same passage Lucas Bergvall came on for Benjamin Nygren. According to Aftonbladet, the 20-year-old Tottenham midfielder thereby became Sweden’s youngest player at a World Cup.
