E gypt secured their place in the round of 32 after a 1-1 draw with Iran at Lumen Field in Seattle on June 26. The Pharaohs needed at least a point to advance and got it, finishing second in Group G.
Mahmoud Saber gave Egypt the lead in the fifth minute with a composed finish. Iran hit back quickly through Ramin Rezaeian in the 14th minute to level the score, and the match remained 1-1 through to the final whistle.
The draw left both teams on three points heading into the final match of the day in Vancouver, where Belgium's result against New Zealand would ultimately determine the group standings.
Egypt finish second in Group G with five points and advance to the knockout stage. Iran exit the tournament with three points.
