B razil and Morocco shared the points in a 1-1 draw to open Group C, played before a crowd of 80,663 at the New York/New Jersey Stadium. Ismael Saibari put Morocco ahead before Vinícius Júnior levelled for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil.

Two moments of quality

Morocco struck first in the 21st minute, Saibari finishing a rapid counter by chipping goalkeeper Alisson. Brazil responded on 32 minutes through Vinícius Júnior, who beat his marker and curled home a fine equaliser. The second half turned tactical and physical, and Ancelotti made changes at the break with two players booked, but neither side found a winner.

It is a respectable opening point for both heavyweights and leaves Group C finely poised after the first round.
